A moment of celebration for Romanian sports
ormer Olympic champion Nadia Comaneci said on Monday evening, at the „110 Years of Olympism in Romania” Gala, that this is a moment of celebration and she is happy to be alongside the legends of Romanian sports.
„I am happy to be here; it’s a moment of celebration for Romanian sports. I am happy to see the 1976 team, girls I haven’t seen in a while. It’s like seeing the entire 110-year history of Romanian Olympic sports. I am glad to celebrate this moment with all the athletes,” she said.
Nadia Comaneci does not believe that Ana Maria Barbosu could lose her bronze medal from the Paris Olympic Games as a result of a decision by the Swiss Supreme Court.
„As far as I know, for now, Ana Barbosu will keep her medal. Forever, I say. The idea was to award two more medals (for Sabrina Voinea and American Jordan Chiles), but at some point, the idea for Sabrina was dropped. However, everyone is trying to make sure the girls are satisfied after what happened in Paris,” explained the former gymnast.
Regarding the presidential elections in Romania, Nadia Comaneci did not wish to comment: „Politics is not something that fascinates me, I don’t understand it, so maybe it’s better for me to stay in my sporting role where I can create something. So, I can’t discuss it because I don’t understand either. Of course, I do see a female president. Everyone looks at history so that a woman can become president. There was that moment in the United States; it wasn’t meant to be this year. So, we’ll see, Romania will choose.”
